摘要
Mass media plays an extensive role in raising public awareness. Using a staggered difference-in-differences model, this study examines the impact of public welfare-oriented media promotion on corporate donations through a natural experiment of the Touching China program. We find that the companies located in the cities where one of the People Who Moved China was born donate 18.9% more. The effect occurs by triggering public concerns and improving corporate culture. Furthermore, media promotion significantly affects donations in diversified boards, non-polluting, state-owned companies, and those located in eastern regions. This paper provides a new perspective on the link between media promotion and corporate social responsibility.
